The Summer Sun competition is designed to enable people to explore the new IH website and to discover more about the products and services Ih offer. It also supports IH Dubai’s mission of raising language education standards in the region by supporting its ideology of accessible and affordable learning and training for all. To win the competition, visitors to the www.ihdubai.com have to find a small picture of a summer sun (a larger version is shown on the News & Events page) and then contact the school with their name and details including saying where they found the sun. Winners are announced on the first of the month and receive a 500AED gift voucher which can be spent on any course of their choice.

July 2010: There is now more than one provider of Business Language Testing Services (BULATS) in the region. BULATS is a multilingual tool for organisations and students that need a rapid, reliable and cost effective way of assessing the language skills of employees, trainees and job applicants. BULATS tests communication skills that are needed in real business situations. It enables you to test all four skills – listening, speaking, reading and writing – in four languages. BULATS is available in English, French, German and Spanish. BULATS is developed and delivered by University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations in collaboration with leading experts in the assessment of French, German and Spanish: Alliance Française (French) Goethe-Institut (German) Universidad de Salamanca (Spanish)

International House Dubai is excited to open its specialist language courses to young learners. Starting summer 2010 teenagers will be able to attend project-based language courses at IH Dubai. The courses last for two weeks (but students can join more than 1!) and will develop learners' language ability through real-life activities and team projects in a secure and fun environment.

IH Dubai is celebrating the start of its very first Cambridge Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA) in Abu Dhabi. Responding to the needs and requests of future teachers in the area and building on the strong reputation IH Dubai has for its Cambridge Teaching Awards has culminated in this, the first of many CELTA courses in the capital of the country.

We are delighted to announce the launch of the first IH World You Tube Competition! The You Tube Competition will be open to all current students studying at an IH school and will run from 21st June to 30th November 2010. Students from both Study Abroad schools and Local schools are invited to take part. First prize is a voucher of GBP800 that can be used at any IH school!

IH Dubai has successfully achieved the Young Learner Exam (YLE) Approved Centre status and will begin delivering Young Learner Exams from September 2010 Adding to the range of exams offered by IH Dubai for adults in business and general study, which include KET, PET and Business Certificates (BEC), the YL exams will offer qualifications for younger learners enabling them to begin their English language career at age five with the Starters exam and offering progress and development through Movers and Flyers and onwards during their lifelong learning.

Throughout 2010 IH Dubai has been working with the Vocational Education Development Centre (VEDC) to provide the opportunity for their students to take internationally-recognised University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations. VEDC is an exam preparation centre for IH Dubai which affords access to a whole host of exams at great value, in recognition of the numbers of candidates who participate.

IH Dubai are pleased to announce their collaboration with the Hermes Institute of Science and Technology in Iran. IH Dubai have been contracted to expand the delivery of teacher training products and services for the Hermes Institute who have more than 10 centres in Tehran with further expansion plans. As one of the most reputable English language teaching institutes in Iran, they are very committed to maintaining the highest international and most modern professional standards in language teaching. Hermes chose IH Dubai because of their commitment to ‘Raising Language Education Standards’ in the region in the knowledge that that they would be embarking on a rewarding and first rate professional collaboration.

The world cup is now just ten days away so this coming week is the perfect time to launch the IH World Cup Tipping Competition. Open to everyone who either works or studies at an International House school, the IH World Tipping Competition challenges participants to compete against classmates, friends and other IH students, teachers and staff from around the world. The 2010 Annual Dubai Women's College Careers Fair had a very good turnout. The venue was great and the students were friendly. They took interest in not only working for International House but taking courses with us especially IELTS preparation classes and teacher training courses such as the CELTA. All in all it was a great event.

IH Dubai is celebrating its inaugural Young Learner Extension to CELTA course. Offering this also makes International House Dubai the only school in the region to offer ALL the University of Cambridge Teaching Awards. (These include all modules of the TKT, the CELTA, the YL extension and the DELTA.)

The Ih team is physically showing its support for the UNICEF 'Fat Truth' Campaign by taking part in marathons, triathlons and even a sky-dive in order to raise money and awareness. Obesity in the UAE and Gulf is linked to the high rates of diabetes and cardiovascular disease in the region which constitute the leading cause of death. Education and early preventative action is essential in the fight against it.

IH takes part in the discussion on the impact of technology on learning and teaching - from the University of Cambridge World of Work conference. Hosted in Cambridge itself, it was attended by delegates across the globe. Speakers included Pete Sharma, Gavin Dudeney and Russell Whitehead.

This year's Directors Conference was held in IH Cairo. Bringing together the Directors of 140 schools in over 40 countries worldwide, this is always an exciting event keeping IH schools at the forefront of teaching and teacher training. The directors were also pleased to have raised money from their 'international-themed' charity auction. All the money raised will be donated to Operation Smile: http://www.operationsmile.org

IH Dubai is proud to support the 2010 Careers Fair, offering opportunities and development for Emirati nationals and other residents of the UAE.

Hosted by University of Cambridge International Examinations and University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations, under the patronage of Abu Dhabi Education Council. IH Dubai believes that student-centred approaches to learning are at the forefront of of current thinking in education and that this conference is important in supporting other schools in implementing these approaches.

International House Dubai joined other professionals in the field (from more than 19 different countries) for the IATEFL Special Interest Group on Testing and Assessment. The theme for this two day event was "Establishing and Maintaining Standards".
